HTML - HyperText Markup Language - The language of web pages on the World Wide Web.

The HTML (HyperText Markup Language) has become the language of the Internet. Netscape is one of the browsers for graphically presenting the information contained in a hypertext document. Those of us in Internet circles say that the Netscape browser renders (shows) the hypertext document.
Early versions of the Netscape software were free. In 1995, Netscape now charges $49.00 - $79.00 for their newest version of Netscape 3.0 standard (plus components). As you learn how, later in this document, I encourage you to download and try a copy of the Netscape software from the following site:
Once you get the new Netscape Navigator 3.0 installed, you might want to visit the following site to see what it can do.
This web page includes music, for those of you equipped to listen. Notice how the Java allows the screen to change in response to your mouse!
You may open several Netscape Navigator windows at the same time. I often have one window downloading a web page while I peruse information in another window.
The top of the Netscape window is located below. Note that the document title, Search & Database Engines, appears in the top of the window bar. This window bar has other buttons.
Minimize Button : Push this button minimize the Netscape window.
FullScreen Button : Push this toggle button to expand the Netscape window to full screen.
Terminate Program Button : Push this button to terminate the Netscape application.
The Bottom of a Netscape window is located below. It also contains a couple of buttons.
Resize Window Button - Hold this button and drag the mouse to resize the Netscape window.
Activate Mailer Button - Push this button to launch the Netscape Mail program.
The contents of a web page may fill several screens. The button in the middle of the scroll bar (to the left) may be used to shift different portions of the web page into the viewing portion of the screen. Hold this button with your mouse; drag the mouse up and down to scroll the window.
Navigator Button : Push this button to go to the Netscape home page.
Since the http://www.netscape.com is visited approximately 5,000,000 times daily, I try to avoid the site unless I need to update software.
There are three different techniques that can be used to load the Microsoft Corporation Home Page into the browser. First we must know that the URL for the Microsoft Corporation Home Page is http://www.microsoft.com .
When using a modem, it may take several seconds or several minutes to download a single web page because of the graphics. Web users often want to go back and forth between web pages that they have previously viewed during the current Netscape session; the Back Button and Forward buttons are used to recycle through previously viewed pages. Netscape stores information from recent web pages in memory and on your hard drive in order to (1) reduce the drag on the Internet and (2) increase your speed reloading.
Pull down the Go Menu and selecting Forward
There will be times that you immediately know that you have no further interest in the web page that is currently being loaded (maybe long before the entire document has been downloaded into your machine). You can use the Stop Button to immediately terminate the loading process.
Stop Button - Push this button to terminate the loading of the current Web Page.
Suppose we have a web page contains fifty screens of information about basketball. Suppose further that you want to look for information about the San Antonio Spurs.
There will be times that a web page fails to load properly. The web page fails to load once you hit the Stop Button. The web page fails to load if there are network problems. The web page fails to load when there are problems with the phone line or modem.
Netscape allows each user to select the home page of his/her choice. Business people often select the company home page. Individuals often select their own home page. Many of the Internet providers allow each user a certain amount of space on their server for a user home page.
Netscape Gold includes a Web Page Editor to make the creation of web pages easier for the novice. This handout were created with the Netscape Gold editor.
