1. When it says the travel cost is paid, is that the total amount of which type of travel -- bus, train, airplane, or driving from my home school?
The program provides $350 for the travel cost to and from Trinity. If you perfer to take airplane, we will book the round trip ticket for you, and pickou up from the airport when you arrive and drop you to the airport when you return. For other travel types, such as train, bus or driving, we will reimburse you up to $350. Students must present receipts detailing their travel expenses within two weeks of the date of travel and no later than August 1, 2008. Mileage will be reimbursed at a rate of 50.5 cents per mile.
2. About staying in the dorm at Trinity University -- does the dorm have refrigerator or microwave in the room for use?
Yes, every dorm on campus provides every room with a microwave/refigerator combo.
3. Is there a washer and dryer available in the dorms?
Yes, they take quarters ($ .75 per load).
4. Does the university have a cafeteria or places nearby where food could be purchased?
The Commons Dining Room in the Coates University Center is open for breakfast and lunch daily only. Every floor (approx. 30 rooms) of each dorm room also has a full size kitchen with a stove. During the summer many students travel together to nearby grocery stores to make dinners in the dorm together. Trinity always has multiple summer programs holding on campus. Students are from both Trinity and outside. For example, our REU has 3 from Trinity and 5 from outside. The Trinity students will help the outside students get familiar with the local area. Our REU also has weekly social event with other programs.
As far as other dining options off campus. Trinity is situated approx. 10 minutes from Downtown San Antonio and within walking distance of Alamo Heights and Olmos Park both of which have several grocery stores HEB, Central Market, etc) and numerous restuarants of all price levels and variety.
5. Is there public transportation available in the area?
Yes, there is a bus service with two pick locations on campus.
6. Can personal vehicles be parked on the campus and is there a charge for parking?
Yes, there is a $36 fee for a summer permit.
7. Would taxes be withheld from the pay received?
Trinity is not required to deduct taxes from stipends paid to students. We do not issue a 1099 for stipends paid to students. We do send the student a letter stating that it's possible that the IRS may view their stipends as being taxable. Generally, under current tax laws, a payment used for expenses other than tuition and required fees, and/or required books, equipment and supplies is considered taxable.
8. On the application under academic information for math courses and computing courses does this include the classes taken at high school?
No. We only count the courses taken in college.
