Introducing the World Wide Web


Picture a spider's web encircling the globe. The strands of the web crisscross over continents and oceans, making a lacy cloak over the Earth. The World Wide Web information system similarly encircles the globe. Its strands interconnect computers worldwide and provide opportunities for communication and commerce unprecedented in history.

This document gives a brief introduction to the World Wide Web and the technical underpinnings that make it possible.
