The project selection document should consist of three parts, an abstract, a problem description and a proposed plan of work you will do to complete the project.

One of the things you will prepare for submission with your project at the end of this course will be a 5 to 7 page paper on your project which is in a format suitable for publication. The project selection document may be thought of as a first draft of the final paper's Abstract and Introduction (which describes the problem) sections and a proposed outline for the remaining sections of the paper.
