Note! On weekends and after 5:00 p.m. weekdays, these machines are to be rebooted into Linux when you are finished using the Windows 2000 operating system. The purpose of this policy is to allow these machines to be used via the internet during hours when the Halsell building is closed. Please remember to reboot Linux!. During daytime hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) on weekdays, you should reboot the Linux opeating system when you are finished using the Windows 2000 operating system unless you know that the next use of that machine requires Windows 2000.
Instructions for Booting Linux from Windows
(Windows 2000: Machines in Halsell 201, Halsell 228 or Halsell 329) Select Shutdown and Reboot from the Windows 2000 operating system. A menu will appear during the reboot process which says:
Linux W2K Press enter to boot Linux
Instructions for Booting Windows from Linux
1. If you are not logged into the Linux machine, press the options menu button on the Linux login screen and select System and then Reboot. Click Ok on the confirmation dialog box and the system will reboot. NOTICE: You should not reboot a Linux machine into Windows 2000 unless you are sure that no one else is using the machine via remote login. When you seen the menu:
Linux W2K Press the down-arrow key to select w2k and press enter to boot Windows 2000.
Note! Do not reboot a machine to the Windows by turning off the machine or pressing the reset switch. This may cause catastropic filesystem damage and is considered a violation of the Trinity University Code of Ethics for Computing.
