Note! On weekends and after 5:00 p.m. weekdays, these machines are to be rebooted into Linux when you are finished using the Windows or MacOS operating systems. The purpose of this policy is to allow these machines to be used via the internet during hours when the Halsell building is closed. Please remember to reboot Linux!. During daytime hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) on weekdays, you should reboot the Linux opeating system when you are finished using the Windows 2000 operating system unless you know that the next use of that machine requires Windows 2000.
Instructions for Booting Linux from Windows or Macos
1. (Windows 2000: Machines in Halsell 228) Select Shutdown and Reboot from the Windows 2000 operating system. A menu will appear during the reboot process which says:

2. (Macos: Umbriel, Titania in Halsell 200) Use the Apple menu to select and run the machine's Linux Boot program. This program presents a Dialog box which has a Write & Reboot button. Click on this button and its confirming dialog to boot Linux. Due to a bug in the Open Firmware on these machines, the reboot sometimes fails. If this happens, press and release (at the same time) the CTRL, APPLE and Power On keys. Linux will then reboot.
