Welcome to the Trinity University Chapter of the
American Association of University Professors' homepage

Membership in the chapter is open to Trinity University faculty members and administrators who hold academic rank.

Membership in AAUP itself is open to college and university faculty members, administrators, graduate students, and the general public. Founded in 1915, AAUP defends academic freedom and tenure, advocates collegial governance, and develops policies ensuring due process.

We encourage all eligible members of the Trinity Community to join AAUP and our local chapter.

Please contact any of us or other members to ask questions as to why AAUP membership is important for academicians and provides real-world benefits to your career.

It is especially important for younger faculty. Will tenure continue in American institutions of higher education? What about academic freedom? Are you going to be working under a corporate model
of administration with priorities quite different from those you have as a scholar/educator? AAUP is
the organization for faculty who value the latter.

Membership Information:

One can join through the AAUP web page or the brochure about to appear in your mailbox.

Still Not Convinced : Check out these links from the AAUP:

Higher Education Info - How about that salary info? Plus other interesting tidbits.
Academic Freedom and Tenure - Post tenure reviews. Will there be tenure anymore
Governance - With a new administration in place, this is a good time to pay attention to this.

Aug. 7, 2000.

Welcome back. The executive committee of the AAUP has a busy year planned. Our three main events for the Fall semester are listed below. Our Spring semester plans are not yet complete. But in addition to the activities listed below we also hope to hold a discussion specifically for junior faculty related to getting tenure at Trinity, and we hope to host a luncheon with the new Vice President of Academic Affairs, Michael Fischer. Details will be provided later.

We would like to see membership increase yet again this year. Please do your part and talk to non-members in your department about joining the AAUP. Be sure as well to talk to any new faculty about joining.

The AAUP continues to have keen interest in the status of tenure for the librarians. As you will remember, that was the topic of an AAUP forum last Fall. The Ad Hoc Committee on the Library has graciously made their report available to the AAUP. The Library has done the same with their response. Both of these reports are currently being reviewed by Vice President White. The AAUP will provide updates on the progress of this issue as these details are made available.

If there are any issues which you think the AAUP should investigate or be made aware of, please do not hesitate to contact any of us on the executive committee.

See you at Tycoon Flats!
