My Music 2

The Doors: They were myst first favorite band. Their music really opened my mind into the possibilities of music and great song writing. I've always idolized Jim Morrison as a great frontman, his theatrics on stage were way ahead of his time and resonate with us today. Only the Doors, could mix Spaceships, Giant Snakes, and German 3 penny operas into one great debut album.

Suggested Listening: The Doors, The Doors Greatest Hits-Elektra, and LA Woman

Pink Floyd: After the Doors I became enthralled by Pink Floyd. When I listened to Dark Side of the Moon I was dumbfounded. Pink Floyd tried to open the mind of a 7th grader to the greater cosmic possibilities of life. Life was a journey in which meeting people and observing the universe was essential to a life well lived.

Suggested Listening: Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall.

Pearl Jam: Growing up I went through many phases, one of which was the "romantic soul of the Northwest grunge" phase. I listend to alot of Nirvana and Pearl Jam, alittle Alice in Chains to get me going. However, Pearl Jam really said more then just trying to be a grunge band. They evolved into something more meaningful and something dangerous. Jeremy was a song that fortold the balck days of April 1999, and Evenflow told of the contiual plight of vagrants who go unnoticed in our society. Not to mention they rocked harder then most bands in the 90's. For me, Pearl Jam said you could mean something and be as ferocious as a hurricane.

Suggested Listening: Ten, Live on Two Legs, VS.

Rage Against the Machine: Another phase I went into, and from time to time ressurect is the "Political Activist, up to the Man" phase. Their music had strong political messages that rang out to my generation. They were my generations Bob Marley, CSNY, and Bob Dylan all rolled up into one and spreading revolutionary gospel to me. Although I caught the tale end of their tenure, they still rise up the flames of rightous activism and uncomprimising justice.

Suggested Listening: Evil Empire, Battle for Los Angeles, and RAGE.

Jamiroquai: My dad of all people introduced me to Jamiroquai. I thought this was another of his weird music that made funny sounds and was for dense euro pop. Once I gave it a chance, I danced and sang to lyrics of "Cosmic Girl" or tried to imagine how to move like "Virtual Insanity". The music on here blends, Disco, funk, jazz, afro-beats, and reaggae. Jay is a fierce singer who gives credibility to the insane music it revolves around.

Suggested Listening: Traveling Without Moving and Synkronized.

Marvin Gaye: Marvin is simply wonderful. His music is soulful, relevant, and timeless. When he's singing to a woman and slyly bringing sensual overtones he makes a suspender falling off too exciting. He also focused on what happend around him, he asked the question "What's Going On" in today's America. His music drives people to consumate love or take up action, two very different aspects to a complicated man.

Suggested Listening: Whats Going On, Let's Get it On, and Trouble Man
