Welcome to the Atlantic Slave Trade GIS Project. This project was created to study the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to the study of the Atlantic Slave Trade, and more generaly History, and Economic History.

This website covers several aspects of reasearch, both analysis of results generated from the project and methods of using GIS technology to study similar historical topics, along with tips and tricks for using GIS and related tools for this sort of reasearch

This project made heavy use of David Eltis' Transatlantic Slave Trade Database which was the source of all staticical information used in the project. The basic maps came from both the Eltis database and the USGS.
