Class 14 Outline:

Field Trip to CLT

Meet in HAS 227

Today we will pay a visit to the first floor of the Library. The AT&T Center for Learning and Technology is located there. While there, you will use a scanner of your choice to scan a self-portrait which you draw on the worksheet. Save this to your homework folder.

Check out the resources, some of which are described below:

About Us

The AT&T Center for Learning & Technology, on the first floor of the Coates Library, offers students, faculty and staff the opportunity to explore the world of educational technology. The Studios@CLT, the focal point of the facility, provides users with high-end Windows and Mac computer workstations, scanners, audio and video digitizers and other high-tech developmental tools, all combining to create a flexible work environment for developing multimedia presentations, reports and projects. Studio users are able to connect to the Internet, download video clips, images, sounds and documents from all over the world, edit and modify these resources and incorporate them into their research and instructional materials.

For example, a Modern Languages student preparing a report on a Russian author can gather information from websites worldwide, scan and enhance photographic images of the writer and his localities, digitize video clips from one of the author's plays, and integrate all of these elements into a multimedia class presentation.

All this and much more is possible in the AT&T Center for Learning & Technology.

Homework:

Make a blog entry about what you found on your visit to CLT  and how you might use the Center for our class, in your other classes and for personal projects. Use some of the answers from your Q&A sheet and add a photo if you took one and UPLOAD YOUR scanned SELF-PORTRAIT to your blog.
