Important concept: You can make a webpage with many different programs - Dreamweaver, SeaMonkey, Expression Web - and you can go back and forth among them to suit your purposes. You can also hand-code inside or outside of these programs.

Important concept: You can make a website complete with link, graphics and content, but it will remain in a local folder on your computer until you publish it to a web hosting service. You may wish to purchase your own domain name first. Here is a list of the top15 for 2014 (and their fees) according to Review.org

HANDS-ON: Publishing Your Website on the Trinity Server

For safety, backup your 26myweb folder onto your Y drive in case you want to continue to update it . . . . . .

Open your HTML-Documents folder on Sol and copy and paste the folders and files from inside your Web folder (26myweb). The  page named index.htm is your home page.

To open your HTML-Documents folder:
start >> run>> \\sol.cs.trinity.edu\userid\Local\HTML-Documents (substitute your own userid)

cc

url: http://www.cs.trinity.edu/~userid

Publish Web on Sol and view Webs on Internet.
Check title that appears on title bar on each page.
Have someone else browse to your web and check for broken links and images.

Unpublish Web on Sol (if you ever need to):

Delete the files in your HTML-Documents folder in your Sol account.

Homework:

Website Review: questions and presentations - copy your webfiles to your Y drive and upload one file.

Before we begin the assessment, please make a final blog entry with two or three sentences of advice for next semesters students. Tell them one thing that you were surprised about regarding this class and one thing that you learned that you didn't know before. Thanks!

Be sure that you have backed up your website folder onto your Y Drive.

After this class is over, you will update your site from those files instead of the ones in your Groups folder.

Presentation of remaining websites.
