What are TIFs, GIFs, and JPEGs?

TIF or TIFF (Tag Image File Format)

GIF (Graphics Interchange Format)

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)

TIFF files are commonly used to incorporate images into documents for desktop publishing. Tiffs are convenient because they may be viewed by numerous image viewing applications. Tiffs are uncompressed images that contain more computer information than gifs or jpegs and therefore usually reproduce better for print than gif files.

Gifs are usually better for reproducing logos or drawings.GIF files support a maximum of 256 colors, which makes them practical for almost all graphics except photographs. The GIF format supports transparency and is compressed. Gifs can be animated.

Jpegs are usually better for reproducing photographs. The JPEG format, with its support for 16.7 million colors, is primarily intended for photographic images, particularly for use on the web since the files are compressed and download quickly. Jpegs cannot be animated

Choosing hardware from Dell site

Visit the Dell website and put together the Notebook computer that best meets your needs. You have $2123.75 to spend.

Path:

Dell.com
Government, Education and Healthcare
Higher Education
Faculty, Student and Staff Personal Purchases (you can bypass number)
Notebooks - Latitudes vs. Inspirons - Compare Notebooks - choose
Customize it
Use the Help Me Choose feature to make your decisions (example: information on hard drives - The hard drive is the primary storage unit of the computer. It is where the operating system, applications, files and data are kept. If you use your computer for digital video, audio file storage or you like to work with intense applications, you should consider buying a larger size hard drive.)
If we complete this in class, print out a copy of your summary when you have finished choosing your options and be ready to share your choices with the class through your PowerPoint slide (write you name at the top and take it with you to help you remember what you chose).

Homework:

Open dellchoice.ppt in 16animate. Design a one-slide presentation on the computer you chose from the Dell website. Your specifications should include Processor, Operating System, Memory, Hard Drive, Software Bundle, Security Software and Warranty. You may use the example for reference, but do not copy from the slide. (8)  We will use this slide next class to practice custom animations.
