Read document in practice folder - it is important!!

Create shortcuts

Shortcuts - Use help menu in Windows and look in the index for creating shortcuts.

Open

or Start >> Run >> \\tucc-tiger\class

Rt-Click (not left) on your instructor's Class folder

Left-Click Create Shortcut
Click Yes
You should see Shortcut to the Class folder on desktop. You should see arrow on icon.
Click and drag Shortcut to the Class folder to your Y drive.

Open Y drive.

Exercise: Create a shortcut to your Computer Skills folder (\\tucc-tiger\groups\computerskills\belisle\username) and move it to your users folder on Y.

Creating New Folders Inside Your Y Drive:

Inside your folder>File>New>Folder (notice other options)
Right Click to Rename

Changing Icons of Shortcuts (may not work on lab computers):

Right Click on Shortcut>Change Icon>Choose what you like

Diagram of the Trinity Network

Assume you are in a dorm room and your computer uses a cable to connect to the Trinity network.

Make a diagram that shows how information from your computer gets to and from the Internet.

Use the drawing tools in MS Word and your notes.
Type your name, computer number, and class time in the upper left hand corner or your document.
Show how your computer connects in your dorm (name the wiring, show the port on the wall, the wall, and the data closet).
Connection between your dorm, Ruth Taylor, Cobb-Racey and/or Halsell (name the wiring).
Show/name the servers that provide you basic resources such as: your email, your Y: drive folder, groups folder, Ms. Belisle/Dr. Semmes’ class folder, Quest, the Trinity web site.
Show how the Trinity local area network connects to the Internet. Include the name of the Internet Service Provider, the connection speed, and the type of cable.

Use text boxes, autoshape connectors, color, clip art, and any drawing tools that will make your diagram easy to understand. Be consistent in your design. You will find it helpful to make a pencil sketch before creating the diagram on the computer. Save you work when completed - do not move the document or change the title.

Hint: There is a folder called Netpics in your 4network folder. You may use these photos, but make sure you know what each picture represents/
