Web Authoring Tools
As we've seen in this course, a plain text editor and a browser to preview
your document is all you really need to create good Web pages, but there are
lots of more sophisticated tools available to aid you. They fall into
three main categories:
- enhanced text editors with macros, buttons, or menu
entries which automatically generate HTML tags for you
- "WYSIWYG" editors which hide the HTML tags and
let you edit a document more or less directly as it would appear
in a "typical" browser
- automatic conversion tools from various word
processing formats to HTML
At least some of each of these types of tools are available for every popular
computer and operating system, often for minimal cost.
