Over the course of 1977, Todd Rundgren moved Utopia toward a more pop-oriented direction, winding up with the slick mainstream arena rock of Oops! Wrong Planet. With that in mind, it makes sense that The Hermit of Mink Hollow — his first full-fledged solo album since Initiation, if you discount the half-cover/half-original Faithful — finds Rundgren in his pop craftsman persona. The difference is, he's heartbroken. His relationship with Bebe Buell collapsed during 1977 and it's clear that the separation has pained him, since pain and melancholy underpin the album, whether it's on ballads ("Can We Still Be Friends") or on apparently joyous revelries, like "All the Children Sing." That said, this is a Rundgren solo album and he has not abandoned his trademarks, which means that the lush ballads are paired with novelties ("Onomatopoeia," which sounds exactly how you hope it does), ersatz soul ("You Cried Wolf"), and pure pop ("Hurting for You"). Hermit is also the first record Rundgren recorded completely alone since Something/Anything? Where that record sounded like the inner workings of a madman, with each song providing no indication what the next would sound like, Hermit is more cohesive. It also feels less brilliant, even if it is, in many ways, nearly as excellent as Rundgren's masterwork, mainly because it doesn't have such a wide scope. Still, the reason The Hermit of Mink Hollow is such a milestone in Rundgren's career is because it's a small album, filled with details, and easily the most emotional record he made.

History
At 18, he moved to Brighton where he released his debut album Animal Magic on the Tru Thoughts label in 2000. With this album, completely self-produced and mainly self-instrumented, he became one of the "new downtempo pioneers" and his chilled, beat-driven music captivated press as well as many major labels.

In 2001, Bonobo decided to sign for Ninja Tune and in 2003, after one album of remixes on Tru Thoughts in 2002, he released Dial 'M' For Monkey.

In 2005, Bonobo contributed to the Solid Steel series, with his Bonobo Presents Solid Steel: "It Came From The Sea". The release date was scheduled for October 10, 2005, but was released a week early. The mix features several exclusive tracks as well as remixes and re-edits.

His latest album, entitled Days to Come, was released on October 2, 2006. The first single from the album was "Nightlite", featuring vocals by Bajka. The track also appeared on the soundtrack of the game UEFA Champions League 2006-2007.

In 2005, "Pick up" and "Flutter" from the Dial 'M' For Monkey album, was featured in the popular snowboard game SSX on Tour.

Days To Come was voted Best Album of 2006 by Gilles Peterson's listeners.

In 2007, Bonobo's track "Ketto", was featured in a Citroen C4 Picasso advertisement.

Bonobo's track "Flutter" is the opening title theme to CBC Television's sitcom jPod.

Bonobo's track "If You Stayed Over" can be heard during a scene of the popular tv show "Lost" in the season 4 episode 3 called "The economist".

Style

Bonobo uses a wide variety of samples - mainly ethnic - in his music combined with heavy, often complex basslines. His music generally develops linearly - with new elements such as basslines or percussion coming in one after the other. In Days to Come, he mixes this sonic background with the clean yet distinctive vocals of Bajka, who often uses harmony to build up a multifaceted sound.

Like "Bohemian Rhapsody", the major hit from Queen's previous album, "Somebody to Love" has a complex melody and deep layering of vocal tracks, this time based on a gospel choir arrangement. It was the first single off the album A Day at the Races. It is a rock ballad on which band members Freddie Mercury, Brian May and Roger Taylor multitracked their voices to create the impression of a 100-voice gospel choir. The lyrics, especially combined with the gospel influence, create a song about faith, desperation and soul-searching; the singer questions both the lack of love experienced in his life and the role and existence of God. Staying true to Queen's guitar-driven style, it was also filled with intricate harmonies and a notable guitar solo by Brian May, and it went to number 2 on the UK charts and number 13 on the U.S. singles chart.

At the 1992 Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert held at Wembley Stadium, the song was performed by George Michael, and this was later rereleased in 1993 as the lead track of an EP called Five Live which went to #1 in the UK. This version is also available on Greatest Hits III, released in 1999.

During American Idol season 5, Brian May, while working with Elliott Yamin, said this song was written with Aretha Franklin in mind.
