A little bit about myself...
I
am currently a senior at Trinity University. On campus I'm involved
with TUVAC, SME, and KDP. So many acronyms! With TUVAC I'm the program
head for the mentoring program at Hawthorne. That means I get to help
match up Trinity students with kids at Hawthorne who need a mentor.
It's a great program and the kids really benefit from having a college
student for a role model. SME stands for Saturday Morning Experience.
That means I wake up way too early on Saturdays to teach a group of
sixth graders. It's a lot of fun though! We do fun experiments and go
on field trips so it's worth the early morning. Finally, KDP is the
Education Honor Society. So far this year we've been working on some
projects to bring young students to Trinity. It's really great to see a
middle schooler's reaction to what college is like! Next year I will
start the
master's program in teaching and will be a student teacher at
Hawthorne. I love working with kids and can't wait to start
teaching! Part of me wants to stay here in town to teach but another
part of me wants to go somewhere completely new just to try it. We'll
see what happens!
