Shortcuts in Y: drive

• Display Class Web Page
• Copy 3network folder from class folder to groups shared folder
• When you open a file and work on it, click Save to overwrite your original file

Note: Using a shortcut in the Y: drive is like taking a shortcut through someone's yard on the way home. Once you get where you want to be, it doesn't matter how you got there. The class folder and the groups folder are not on the Y drive.

Using Help in Office 2007

• Find out how to take screen shots (also called screen captures)

• Find out how to crop (also called trim)

Making Screen Captures

Note: Screen captures are extremely useful for tutorials, diagrams, and for troubleshooting problems with your computer. Once it is on the clipboard, it can be pasted into other applications besides Word, including outlook and Excel. When emailing a request for help, it is a good idea to include screen shots to explain your problem.

Hands On:  Close the class folder and open the InClassScreenShotPractice file. Remember to Save frequently (NOT Save as)

Introduction to Networks - Discussion

Homework:

• Complete the homework - screen shots assignment inside the Homework folder using your own computer - do not change the name of the document and do not save it in a different place.
  
• Read Chapters 1-3 in the textbook. In Ch. 1, pay particular attention to how the new Office applications work together. Read the word processing chapters(2&3). Look over the exercises. You do not have to work through them, but note what basic skills they cover. Make a brief blog entry about your previous experience with Word and mention what techniques you would like to review.
  
• Read the other students' blogs (your class) and leave a brief comment on one of the entries.
