Power Point Design
Graphic Design
Fundamentals:
If you can master these
fundamental concepts, your graphical treatments — from PowerPoint slides
to Microsoft Word documents to company brochures — will greatly improve.
And even if you will never be the one actually making (designing) the
documents, you will be able to better judge what is good visual
communication and what is not.
- We will be looking at how to use design templates, and how to design your slides
from scratch. We will
practice inserting music and videos with the Guest House files.
Note to users of earlier PowerPoint versions:
The AutoContent Wizard is not available in Microsoft
Office PowerPoint 2007. Instead, you can create your presentation
quickly and easily by using
templates (template:
A file or set of files that contains information about the theme,
layout, and other elements of a finished presentation.).
Office PowerPoint 2007 templates include different
themes (theme:
A combination of theme colors, theme fonts, and theme effects. A theme
may be applied to a file as a single selection.) and
layouts. Templates give you a starting point and make it easier to
complete your presentation quickly. You can modify a template's text and
design, add a company logo, add your own images, or delete text or other
content from the template.Office PowerPoint
2007 includes built-in templates and you can download additional Office
PowerPoint 2007 templates by going to
Office Online Templates.
- You have been asked to made a
presentation to a group of high school students who have been accepted to
Trinity, are here on a college visit, and have not chosen a college yet. It's

computer skills assignment folder, file name: trinity, file type: .pptx)

-

- All the other layouts will change as well:
-

- Add the following slides:

Trinity with bullets:
Finding the right college
A student's point of view
- Slide 3 title: What to Look
for with bullets:
Academics
Extracurricular Activities
Residential Environment

Explore the installed template options - look at the
photo album and the Quiz Show.
You decide that you will make a quiz show all about you
using the template's True and False features

answer will be True and insert your picture. The question is "This is me."
- Insert another slide and this time the answer will be

favorite food? Type the answer
- Last slide - What is the name of my dog, cat, sister
- you choose. Type the names and rearrange - add appropriate clip art
- Delete unwanted slides
- Play slides, see how answers work
- SAVE as quiz.pptx
Creating a PowerPoint Presentation From
Scratch
- This time you will
create your
own design and make a
simple logo using the custom shape tool - save as logo in the folder
- file should be 2x2", use just one layer with
layer styles, drop shadow, etc.
- File => New => Blank
Presentation
- Create a Master Slide
- Close Master View
- SAVE AS (master, 18slides, pptx)

view

-

- Insert Movie
-

- Find a new sound on the Internet
- Find .wav, right click, and
"save target as" in desired folder

FYI: Inserting pictures into Slide
Presentations
PowerPoint works a lot like Word.
Once the picture is on the slide, it doesn't matter where it came from. Be wary
about copying and pasting a picture to your presentation from the Web. It may be
a link to the website with the picture. You can use
the Insert >> Picture from file to insert a picture that you already have saved.
- How to download picture from
Internet
- Surf to picture on the
Internet
- right-click on button
- save picture (browse to
desktop, you can always move the picture later, if desired)
- How to insert downloaded picture
to slide
Homework:
Part 1. Read the links for today that are on the class web page. After
reading the articles, make a blog entry with your reaction to the articles and
advice for your classmates on their PowerPoint presentations. Make a list of
five
guidelines that YOU think are important - including what you find annoying about
bad PowerPoint presentation.
Part 2. See Major PowerPoint Presentation description
below. Begin planning and researching your topic using the search techniques you
learned from Benjamin Harris and Chris Nolan. Make a blog entry
describing briefly the topic you have chosen. Be prepared to make your
presentation on Tuesday, April 8th.
