Try Picnik with one of the Practice Photos in the 5network folder.

Work in small groups to compile and compare your notes from the Server Room tour. Make a rough sketch of the route the wiring takes from your dorm to the Internet and to the Trinity services such as email and Tiger Paws.

Assume you are in a dorm room and your computer uses a cable to connect to the Trinity network.

 

Make a diagram that shows how information from your computer gets to and from the Internet. (use TUnetwork.doc in 5network)

• Use the drawing tools in MS Word 2007 and your notes.
• Type your name, computer number, and class time in the upper left hand corner of your document.
• Show how your computer connects in your dorm (name the wiring, show the port on the wall, the wall, and the data closet).
• Connection between your dorm, Ruth Taylor, Cobb-Racey and/or Halsell (name the wiring).

• Show/name the servers that provide you basic resources such as: your email, your Y: drive folder, groups folder, Dr. Semmes’ class folder, and Quest.
• Show how the Trinity local area network connects to the Internet. Include the name of the Internet Service Provider, the connection speed, and the type of cable.
• Show the routers and the firewall

Use text boxes, autoshape connectors, color, clip art, and any drawing tools that will make your diagram easy to understand. Be consistent in your design. You will find it helpful to make a pencil sketch before creating the diagram on the computer.

 

Copy the 5network folder from the class folder to your groups folder. Open the file TUnetwork in the folder. Create the diagram and SAVE.

Study for Quiz 1, Tuesday, September 11. The quiz will cover everything we have done so far this semester, including hands-on assignments and practices in class, homework assignments, reading and information  from the Server Room tour.
