Your Career in Assurance and Advisory Business Services (AABS)

With faces on both sides of his head, the mythological Roman god Janus could see behind and ahead of him. Businesses today desperately need the same vision: a strong understanding of prior performance and the ability to see future opportunities.

Overview of the AABS practice
We recently changed the name of our Audit practice to Assurance and Advisory Business Services to reflect the many new areas we offer valuable assurance, trust, and objectivity, in addition to audits of financial statements and related advisory services.

Assurance Services to validate clients' controls and financial information, and to go beyond the numbers to bring more business insight to our clients. Specialty Services to complement the core assurance processes of existing and potential clients with a portfolio of high-growth services, including:

Information Systems Assurance and Advisory Services (ISAAS)—The assessment and improvement of IS controls and processes, security evaluation and improvement, implementation of client-server controls, and electronic commerce.

Center for Strategic Transactions—Assurance and advisory services related to business life-cycle strategic transactions, including financing, initial public offerings, other private and public equity offerings, mergers and acquisitions, asset sales, and joint ventures.

Electronic Commerce Services—Assurance and advisory services related to doing business through the Internet and other electronic media.

M&A Due Diligence—Transaction assurance and advisory services for private equity investors, financial investors, and the corporate market.

Internal Audit Services (IAS)—Internal audit integration, teaming on a project basis, business risk modeling, and assessment and reengineering of client internal audit functions.

Actuarial Services—Risk management services principally for the insurance and managed care industries.

Who We Hire

We recruit high-performance, creative individuals. Undergraduate new hires typically enter the AABS practice in either Assurance Services or ISAAS; graduate-degree holders may be hired directly into our M&A Due Diligence group. While not restricted to any one academic major, our professionals most commonly have the following backgrounds:

Assurance Services and IAS BS (Accounting or Finance), or MBA or MS (Accounting)
ISAAS BS or MS (Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, Computer Sciences, or Management Information Systems)
M&A MBA with CPA certification

Performance Evaluation
In the AABS practice, where you're going is as important as where you've been. That's why, in addition to measuring your contributions on engagements and in non-client service areas (e.g., recruiting, community service), you and your personal counselor will complete a Personal Development Plan each year, which will identify new opportunities and areas for professional growth. How you grow is what will determine your promotions and compensation.

Career Path
Gone are the days when you had to follow a strict linear path to a career position. Together, we'll co-develop an individual path that will align your aspirations with the firm's and our clients' needs. Although we still use such titles as staff, senior, manager, senior manager, principal, and partner, your roles will alternate from project manager to knowledge steward, from sales to technical advisor.

We know the success of our practice rests on your satisfaction, so we offer rewarding people processes (e.g., competitive compensation, performance management), challenging work assignments, diverse opportunities, and a learning culture that fosters your own professional development. You'll have the ability to specialize in Assurance or a Specialty Service, and to move from one career focus to another within AABS or the entire firm.
