The Facts

  1. Beginning with your first day at the university, you will become an Ernst & Young professional staff employee. During the first summer, while in residency at the university, you will receive compensation of $1,000/mo, subject to applicable payroll tax withholdings. In addition, Ernst & Young will cover tuition, books, and room and board.
  2. In the fall of 2000, you will begin full-time client service work on behalf of the firm. Your compensation will be adjusted to your full-time salary. During the "school year," you will complete distance learning coursework. (Did you think this was going to be easy?) After all, continuous learning is part of the firm culture.
    • By the way, if you don’t know ABC from AICPA, we’ve got you covered. Non-accounting business majors will attend a 5-week readiness program prior to beginning the Core Master's Program.
  3. In the summer of 2001, you’ll get one last blast of campus life, in an intensive eight weeks of final coursework. During this, your second summer in the Program, you remain on the E&Y payroll.
  4. Graduation! You’ve earned your M.S. in Accountancy from one of the most prestigious universities in the country — and simultaneously jump-started your career with practical experience at a "Big Five" firm.
  5. Your education isn’t over. Now Ernst & Young helps you prep for the CPA exam.

The Readiness Program
Prior to the first summer session, most students will participate in a preparatory program, in residency at the university. The Readiness Program is an intensive five weeks designed to provide non-accounting majors the necessary foundation to enroll in the first summer semester. Courses will include Auditing, Cost Management, Taxation and Financial Accounting. During the Program, candidates will be full-time residents at one of the universities.

Admission Requirements:
Ernst & Young will select applicants for sponsorship in the program. Each applicant will be reviewed by the admissions committee of the university to which their application was submitted. The admissions committee will evaluate each candidate based on his or her undergraduate academic report; GMAT score; academic or professional recommendations; personal statement; professional, community and extracurricular activities; and the recommendation of an Ernst & Young recruiter.

Application Process

  1. Attend an E&Y information session on campus; check with your Career & Placement office.
  2. Forward resume to your Career and Placement Office.
  3. Interview with an Ernst & Young campus recruiter.
  4. If you are invited for an office visit, you will need to bring a completed Coursework Summary (Download the form or ask your campus recruiter) and an unofficial or official transcript.
  5. After an offer of employment has been extended, you will be sent an application to your designated university. We will do our best to match you to a preferred university if indicated on Coursework Summary.
  6. You will have 30 days to return a complete application package (including official transcripts, letter or recommendation, and GMAT scores) to Ernst & Young. If you have not taken the GMAT, register for the next test and indicate test date on application. The university application fee and the fee for one sitting of the GMAT will be covered by Ernst & Young (be sure to save official GMAT receipt to be reimbursed by Ernst & Young), if you are sponsored for the program by an Ernst & Young recruiter.
  7. You will be formally notified of your acceptance status within 15 days of a decision from the university.
Note: Due to the significant investment required to sponsor participants, space is limited to the top candidates.

Academic Standards & Conditions of Employment
We are committed to investing in you and your future. This Program, which requires a significant financial investment on our part, is proof of that commitment. But every relationship is a two-way street. So what's your end of the deal? Two things:

  1. Maintain at least a "B" average throughout the program and receive no more than 2 C’s.
  2. Commit to working for E&Y for at least three years upon successful completion of the program. If you elect to leave the firm before the end of this three year period, you will be responsible for a prorated portion of the cost associated with our investment in you.

Benefits to You
This Program will be a premier graduate experience with a customized, innovative curriculum that meets the CPA requirements of most states. This is an exceptional opportunity to begin your career with a competitive edge. No other "Big Five" firm has anything like it!
