 General Guidelines

1.) Your first task is reviewing all of the links on the Links/Resources page, read them thoroughly. Each of them has similar information presented in various ways. One presents the order of operations using modules to show how the answer changes depending on the order used (HINT: pay close attention to this one, it will be helpful later). On the link labeled Order of Operations-game I would like you to play the game, see how many you can get right in 60 seconds. After completing the game write down how many you got right and turn it in to me before continuing.

2.) After you have reviewed all of the resources complete the online quiz. You must get at least 8 of the 10 questions right to continue. When you finish the quiz make sure I see your score if I don’t see it is DID NOT happen.

3.) Next you must complete the spreadsheet activity. The first portion should be easy now that you are an expert on the order of operations. All you have to do is plug the right operations in the cells so that the equations make sense. The second thing I would like you to do is create a spread sheet of your own that shows how doing the operations in a different order gives you the wrong answer. I would like 10 completed example problems demonstrating this. Save in the class folder under your last name.

4.) Now that you know the order of operations like the back of your hand you will make either a poster, video, PowerPoint etc. presenting the order of operations. On this you must have:

            a. The order of operations clearly stated

            b. an original slogan that will help you remember the order

Ex. Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally

     c. You must also give one reason that the order of operations is          important.

     d. Make sure this is something you would be proud to show your friends. After you have completed this you will be required to present it to the class. The project itself must be neat and well thought out. The presentations should be brief.

Reminder: For a detailed description of how I will be grading this project as a whole see the rubric.
