[CSCI3294] revised late penalty (repeating for the list archive)

(Sorry about sending this twice, but it occurs to me that I want
this in the class mailing list archive where we can all find it on
the Web .... )

A student has made a fairly convincing argument that some of my 
rationale for imposing late penalties doesn't make sense for this
course (in which topics don't really build on each other in the way
they do in, say, PAD II).

So, here's a revised late policy for homeworks assigned so far:

(*) No penalty for homework turned in no more than week past the due
date.

(*) 10% off for more than a week but no more than two weeks late.

(*) 20% off for more than two weeks late.

I'm pretty sure this will change at least a few grades on work I've
already returned; if that's you, tell me and I'll make appropriate
corrections.

This does have potential effects on the timing of posting solutions.
What I think I'll do is post them only after everyone has turned
something in.  The impatient are welcome to ask me for early-release
solutions by e-mail.
