Saint Matthew's Chapel in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire --- http://www.stmatthewsnh.org/
One of the most photographed churches in New England
is less than a mile down
the road from our cottage.
It's called St. Mathew's Chapel on Highway 117, and throughout its history this
chapel meets on Sundays in the summer season using visiting Episcopal church
ministers, bishops, and other volunteers.
Occasionally it also hosts weddings and funerals.
I previously posted a photoset about the interesting
history of the Chapel (closed in 2020 due to the pandemic)
http://www.cs.trinity.edu/rjensen/Tidbits/Churches/Set02/ChurchesSet02.htm
The Chapel in 1893 was built on stone foundation.
Decades later it was jacked up and reset on wooden pillars instead of the stone foundation.
In winter 2019/2020 the old building was moved temporarily to construct
new pillars
I previously posted Part 1 of the 2019/2020
temporary move of the Chapel ---
http://www.cs.trinity.edu/rjensen/Tidbits/Churches/StMatthews/Move/MoveSet01.htm
Below I show Part 2 of the move along steel beams
The move was funded by a $50,000 New Hampshire Land
and Community Heritage Grant plus
a $50,000 anonymous gitt, and additional contributions by caring donors.
Arnold M. Graton followed in the footsteps of his
legendary father Milton Graton
The Gratons are known especially for their construction and/or repairs of
bridges

George Foss forwarded the following picture
Erika and I bought our retirement cottage in 2003
from George Foss who, years earlier,
purchased this cottage from the closed-down Sunset Hill Resort
Our cottage was originally alongside the Resort's golf course
George Foss had it moved across a tennis court and placed it where the huge SSH
Hotel was torn down

George Hired Milton Graton to move the cottage
The cottage and its four fireplaces were moved on smooth logs that rolled along
a trellis
This is how the Chapel looks now with its new
lattice covering of the foundation
